Time has been flying on the ranch! The last month or so has been packed with daily chores, fun family activities, home upgrades, and lots of creative holiday crafts. We blinked and March was almost gone!

In between everything, we’ve been busy ordering our new above-ground Safe Room Storm Shelter and getting everything ready for its installation. We can’t wait to have this sturdy, safe space ready for whatever Mother Nature throws our way.

And just when we thought things couldn’t get any busier on the ranch… another stray has officially joined the family!

Meet Mr. Thomas O’Malley — our handsome new cat who showed up out of nowhere. After a thorough but unsuccessful search for his previous owner and a quick trip to the vet, he has wasted no time making himself completely at home.

Truth be told, I’m pretty sure he doesn’t just live here… he now owns the house and the rest of us too! The dogs are absolutely fascinated by him (they’ve never lived with a cat before) and can’t stop sniffing and following him around. Mr. Thomas endures all the extra attention with surprising patience and just a touch of royal indifference.

Welcome to the ranch, Mr. O’Malley — you’ve clearly chosen well! 🐱❤️

We’ve had two of our hens decide it’s time to become mamas this spring!

One sweet, gentle mama is already proudly raising 6 adorable little chicks, and they are the cutest things running around the ranch right now.

The second mama, however, is a completely different story — we’ve nicknamed her our “ Ms Violent” broody hen! She’s fiercely sitting on a nest of 8, 9, or possibly 10 eggs (we’re not entirely sure because she won’t let us get close enough to count). As our grandson says, she won’t even let us “take an eye.” Any attempt to sneak a peek results in a lightning-fast peck that feels like a rattlesnake strike!

At this point we’re honestly wondering why we need any more chickens — we already have eggs running out our ears! Even after sharing dozens with friends, the delivery drivers, and the local food bank, our powerhouse hens just keep on laying.

Spring on the ranch is never boring! 🐔💛

So we finally set up a cute little egg stand down by the road to help handle our massive egg overload — and it’s been a huge success!

It’s been running smoothly with no thieves or problems at all (we’re so thankful for our honest neighbors!). The only time we had to bring it in was during the recent bad storms — we tucked it safely into the barn for protection. Otherwise, it’s open 24 hours a day for anyone who needs fresh farm eggs.

The stand even has lights so it stays welcoming even after dark. It’s been wonderful watching people stop by, grab a dozen, and leave their payment in the box. Ranch life at its best!

Now onto the good stuff everyone really enjoys...
